Peterhof is a splendid summer residence of the Romanovs which nowadays is the large museum area. It contains the Grand Palace, smaller palaces like Monplaisir, Marly, and Hermitage, and includes picturesque area of gardens. Especially because of the Lower Park decorated with numerous unique fountains one definitely needs to visit it during the warm time of a year - between April and October when the fountains work and water jets sparkle in the sun. Among surprises of Peterhof are the famous trick-fountains creating happy game atmosphere. It was the idea of Russian tsar Peter the Great to develop a new homestead, inimitable “Russian Versailles”, by the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea that soon became widely-known and was visited by high-ranking guests of Russian monarchs.
