Chamber of Curiosities houses one of the oldest ethnographical museums in the world founded in 1714. From his collections of “rarities” and “monsters” Peter the Great formed the first public museum in Russia. Its building is also the rare example of early baroque style of 1718-1734. Museum contains the exhibition dedicated to the outstanding Russian scientist Michael Lomonosov, the unique collection of astronomical instruments of 18-19 th centuries and the famous Gottorp Globe which was the largest globe in the world and one of the first planetariums.
