DURATION: 30 — 45 min

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan was built next to Nevsky Prospect in 1801-1811. Its architect was Andrew Voronikhin. Later the interiors were continued to be decorated by Auguste de Montferrand. The cathedral commemorates the Patriotic War of 1812 against Napoleon and it is the burial place of the famous Russian general Michael Kutuzov who was the commander-in- chief of the Russian Army. There are 107 French trophy banners and standards as well as the keys from the defeated cities kept inside the cathedral. Nowadays this Orthodox temple is active, and the regular services are held there. The building is open for visitors. The icon of Our Lady of Kazan is one of the most revered in the country and it protected the city during the WW II. During “Nevsky Prospect Walking Tour” with “TourScript” you will see the majestic interiors of the cathedral.
